For students who
are not successful in traditional schools, the State of North Carolina provides
alternatives. Alternative Learning
Programs and Schools (ALPS) are designed to meet student needs through the
utilization of non-traditional Best Practices in Education. Alternative Educational settings assist
students with academic, behavior, and/or mental health and emotional issues
that impede their success in traditional schools. ALPS offer students another chance and
sometimes another setting to earn promotional and graduation credits.
Alternative Education is not an Alternative to Education.
